Our
Philosophy
There are many reasons to join a synagogue. For
some it may be the religious services on Shabbos,
for others the holiday observances, or perhaps
the opportunity for social interaction and the
sense of community. In addition, many find value
in hearing the familiar chants of the liturgy
or words of comfort or inspiration by the rabbi.
These are all good reasons, indeed these are all
reasons why I personally have always chosen to
be active in every Jewish community in which I
have lived.
What I would like to suggest to you at this
time however is one more reason, perhaps the most
important reason of all in today’s world.
That reason is for the sake of the children -
our children and G-d willing, our future grandchildren.
I believe that it is imperative that we support
synagogues today just as our parents did in their
day. Call it our investment in the future just
as they invested in our future.
Who among us has not "qvelled" as
our little ones open the Ark for the Torah Service?
Who has not beamed with pride as our younger members
are called to the bima to read for us on Shabbos?
Who has not felt joy as our Bar and Bat Mitzvah
students are called to the Torah for the first
time and then returned to participate in the services
after their Bar or Bat Mitzvah? This can be the
legacy that you leave by helping to support the
synagogue and its programs.
I would like to thank those of you who have
made the decision to take an active role by becoming
participating members of Congregation Amchah.
If you have not yet made that commitment, please
consider doing so. If you have any questions or
comments please call me. In the meantime, be well
and may G-d bless you.
- Rabbi Larry Winer
